We’ve provided a list of answers to questions we frequently receive regarding our services and other activities related to funerals. Your price is so low, are you a reputable business?
Affordable Cremation Service was affiliated with Whinery Funeral Service, Inc. until October 2014. Whinery Funeral Service owned 5 funeral homes in western Oklahoma and has continued in operation since 1961. Affordable Cremation Service is regulated by the Oklahoma Funeral Board. We are a member of the Cremation Association of North America and an accredited member of the Oklahoma City Better Business Bureau.

Where are you located?
Affordable Cremation Service is located in our new offices at 10900 N. Eastern, Oklahoma City, OK 73131. We do operate a business office in Elk City, Oklahoma.

I see you are connected with funeral homes. Are you going to try and sell me funeral merchandise or try to talk me into services that I really didn't want?
Being in the funeral business, we understand that one size doesn't fit all. Affordable Cremation Service was created to fill the needs of families who want to handle the memorialization of their loved one on their own and keep costs down to a minimum.

Do you only service Oklahoma City and the surrounding area?
No, we offer service anywhere in Oklahoma. We also contract with other crematories to cover the state.

Can I prepay for a cremation and what are the advantages?
Yes, you can prearrange your cremation and pre-sign all of the necessary documents which we will keep on file until the need arises. You can prefund this arrangement which freezes the cost at today's price and also alleviates your family from the financial burden of your final expense. This can be done by a one time payment or we can fit a payment plan to suit your needs. So many of the families we deal with express how much comfort they receive knowing that they are following the wishes of their loved one.

Do I have to make payment before you remove the deceased from the place of death?
No. We send removal personnel to the place of death as soon as we receive authorization from you and the health care professional who is in charge at the time of death. (i.e. hospital staff, nursing home staff, doctor, hospice or medical examiner) We make removals 24 hours a day and our typical response time inside Oklahoma City is 1 hour.

Do I come directly to the funeral home to make arrangements and how long from the time of death until the cremains are ready to be picked up?
Our funeral home is in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Before you arrive, one of our funeral directors will contact you by phone to gather vital statistic information and complete arrangements for the cremation. Once this is completed, we will make an appointment for you to sign your paperwork and pay the balance due at 10900 N. Eastern, Oklahoma City.

The following has to occur before the cremation takes place: The Request for Disposal from the Medical Examiners Office must be completed and signed to be submitted. This is required for all cremations in Oklahoma. Typical turnaround time is 12-24 hours. Once we have received the permit, we will schedule the cremation and place the cremains in your selected vessel. This process normally takes about 72 hours to complete, but depends on how quickly the Medical Examiner grants the permit. (ME's office is closed on weekends and is usually backlogged on Monday.)

I want the cremains present at a memorial service, when can I set the date for the service?
Do not set the service date until we have the permit in hand. We cannot guarantee return of the cremains until we have a permit.

Who orders the Death Certificate and how long does it take?
As a part of our service to you, we handle the details of ordering your certified copies of the Death Certificate. Unfortunately, this is not an overnight process. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will issue the original certificate. It can take 5 or more business days to reach our office. We then order your copies from the Oklahoma Department of Health, which can take up to 4 weeks by mail.

How much are death certificates?
The State of Oklahoma charges $15 per certified copy.

What if I can't wait that long?
You can get the Death Certificate as soon as we file it if you are willing to go to the Health Department near the Medical Center Complex in Oklahoma City. You will need a completed application (available on our website), a photo ID and plan on spending at least 1 hour waiting for your copy/copies.

If you would like to use this option, please inform our staff so that we can advise you when we file the original DC.


What if I want a viewing?
We offer a number of viewing packages from a ID Viewing to a public visitation at Reflection Pointe Gardens. Reflection Pointe Gardens is affiliated with Affordable Cremation Service and is located in the same building.

What if I want a ceremony?
We also offer families through Reflection Pointe the "Gathering Center" that can host receptions or ceremonies for up to 121 people.
